Adult Women's Self-Defence Classes Brisbane
Our women’s self-defence classes in Brisbane teach you to read a situation early, hold your ground, and act with clear judgement under pressure. You will move differently, stand differently, and carry yourself with a steadiness that shows up well beyond the mats. This is a women-only Krav Maga class led by a female coach. It is built for calm confidence rather than aggression, and you do not need experience, fitness, or confidence to start. If you have been looking for self-defence classes for women that feel right from the first minute, this is it.
Who our women's self-defence classes are for
This class is for everyday women who want practical self-defence for women, in a women-only room. You’re coached by a female instructor in an ego-free and supportive atmosphere. You train at your own pace, so there’s no pressure to keep up with anyone.
You will find your place here if you are:
- Have never trained in self-defence or martial arts before
- Have looked into a class before and talked yourself out of it
- Want to feel capable in everyday life, not just careful
- Want real skills for personal safety, not a one-off workshop
- Prefer a women-only class led by a female instructor
- Want clear coaching and steady progress at your own pace
Most women who join our women’s self-defence classes are not starting from confidence. They are starting from the decision to do something about a feeling they have carried for a long time. That decision is the hard part. The coaching does the rest.
What you will learn in our women's self-defence classes
This is practical self-defence for women, built for real situations rather than sport or theory. Skills are kept simple on purpose, so you can understand them, practise them, and trust them under pressure. Every one of our self-defence classes for women follows this structure.
The curriculum comes through our affiliation with Gendai Ryu Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu, a modern integrated self-defence system developed by Dr Gavriel Schneider, 9th Dan Black Belt. It is built for the situations real people actually face.
Escaping grabs, holds, and chokes
Practical releases for when distance has already closed and someone is controlling your movement. Simple, direct, and trained against real resistance.
Striking that works from a disadvantage
Punches, elbows, and knees used well, so you can create space against someone bigger or stronger and get to safety.
Distance, movement, and positioning
Footwork and body positioning that keep you balanced and harder to control, and help you read when someone is too close.
Awareness and reading a situation early
Spot problems sooner, trust your instincts, and make the call to leave before a situation grows. The best outcome is often the one you avoid.
Boundaries and de-escalation
Set strong verbal and physical boundaries to shut a situation down early, out loud, and without apology.
Staying functional under adrenaline
Practise under controlled pressure so your body and mind stay online when they want to freeze. This is the skill that ties the rest together.
Everything you learn here connects to the wider adult Krav Maga program. You can stay in the women-only class, or add other adult sessions when you are ready. That choice is always yours.
What to expect in your first women's self-defence class
You do not need to prepare anything, or know anything, before you arrive. That is exactly what a first class is for.
A WOMEN-ONLY ROOM
You train alongside other women who are building the same skills and confidence you are. No men in the class, no ego, and no pressure to keep up with anyone.
Coaching from a female Instructor
Your instructor welcomes you, shows you around, and walks you through each skill clearly. She demonstrates it, then helps you practise it safely. You are never left guessing.
A LOW-PRESSURE FIRST SESSION
You take part at a pace that suits you, ask any questions you have, and get a feel for the coaching and the room. There is no commitment before you are ready.
SKILLS YOU CAN USE FROM DAY ONE
You leave your first class with something practical, not just a tour. Most women are surprised by how much makes sense in a single session.
Why women choose our women's self-defence classes
Four things women tell us mattered before they decided to stay.
A women-only class, led by a woman
You learn from a female coach who understands the starting point, in a room built for women.
Self-defence for women, week after week
This is ongoing, practical training, not a one-off session you forget by the weekend.
Coached from where you are
No assumptions and no keeping up with anyone. You are met at your level and built from there.
A community that has your back
You train with women who want the same thing, and who are glad to see you each week.
Come and see the difference
What Women Say About Training at CKMA
Many of the women in these reviews started exactly where you are now, nervous and new. The clearest picture of what training here feels like comes from them.
Meet your female instructor
Your class is led by a female instructor. If you are nervous about starting, this matters, because our female instructors have been exactly where you are.
Lena began at CKMA as a student in the adult Krav Maga program, with her own first-day nerves. She trained through the program, then was selected for CKMA’s instructor development pathway under Max, and went on to lead the women’s class. She knows the journey from the inside, and it shapes the way she coaches, calm, clear, and patient.
Lena is a Blue Belt in Gendai Ryu Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu and a certified CKMA and Gendai Ryu instructor.
She coaches under the standards set by CKMA founder Max McGregor, an Australian Defence Force veteran and 3rd Degree Black Belt and Senior Instructor in Gendai Ryu Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu, with over 12 years of coaching experience. That gives the women’s class a supportive coach and a serious standard behind her.
You have probably thought about this before, maybe more than once, and talked yourself out of it. Most women here did the same. Come in, meet our female instructors, train alongside other women, and see how it feels. No pressure, and no commitment before you are ready. You are the person who decided to do something about it. That is where capable begins.
Women's self-defence classes Brisbane: FAQs
Do I need any experience to start?
No. Most women in our self-defence classes for women started with no self-defence or martial arts background.
Will I only train with women?
Yes. Our women’s self-defence classes are women-only, led by a female instructor, so you can build skills and confidence in a room that feels comfortable from the first minute.
Do I need to get fit first?
No. Fitness comes from the training, not before it. You are coached from your current level in every session.
I am nervous about starting. Is that normal?
Completely.
Nearly every woman in our women’s self-defence classes felt it before her first class. Our instructor welcomes you, shows you around, and keeps the first session low pressure. If you want to know what to expect first, read our guide for those new to Krav Maga or martial arts.
What is the difference between women's self-defence and women's martial arts?
Self-defence focuses on practical skills for real-world safety. Martial arts is a longer path that also builds fitness, discipline, and technical skill. Our women’s self-defence classes build both, with self-defence as the priority. To compare every program we run, see our self-defence classes in Brisbane.
What should I wear and bring?
Comfortable workout clothing and a water bottle. Everything you need for a first session is provided, and there is nothing to buy beforehand.
Is this a women's self-defence class or a Krav Maga class?
Both. Krav Maga is a self-defence system, so every class is built around practical women’s self-defence first. You learn it through the same structured Krav Maga curriculum as the rest of our adult program, which means you can keep progressing whenever you are ready.
Where are you located?
Our women’s self-defence classes run at Champions Krav Maga Academy, 889 Logan Road, Holland Park, Brisbane Southside QLD 4121. We regularly train adults from Mount Gravatt, Greenslopes, Coorparoo, Camp Hill, Carina, and the surrounding southside suburbs.
