Adult Beginner Krav Maga Classes Brisbane
Most adults who start here have thought about it for a while. Not because they fear the training, but because they are not sure the room is built for them. If that sounds familiar, our adult beginner Krav Maga classes are for you. There is a version of you who stays calm under pressure and knows what to do. This is where you start to become that person. Build real adult self-defence skills, confidence and lasting capability in a values-led academy. No ego. No intimidation. No experience needed.
Who our adult beginner Krav Maga classes are for
Our adult beginner Krav Maga classes are for everyday adults who want to learn adult self-defence in a room that is structured, welcoming, and built around real coaching rather than ego. Many members are in their thirties and forties, and plenty have tried something before that did not stick.
You will find your place here if you are:
- Someone who has never trained before and is not sure where to start
- Returning to training after time away from martial arts
- An adult who wants to feel genuinely capable, not just careful
- Someone who has been putting this decision off and is ready to stop
- An adult who wants clear coaching and real progress, not confusion
- A complete beginner who wants a room where not knowing yet is normal
Most adults who join are not starting from confidence. They are starting from the decision to stop waiting. The coaching does the rest. This is Krav Maga for beginners, built for adults who are new to training. Our beginner self-defence classes teach every skill step by step, so you always know what you are doing and why. If you are looking for martial arts for adult beginners in Brisbane, this is the place to start.
What you will learn in our adult beginner Krav Maga classes
The curriculum in our adult beginner Krav Maga classes is built to give you strong foundations first. Every skill is introduced in the right order, at the right pace, with the reason behind it explained alongside the technique. Every drill has a purpose, and every session builds on the one before it.
The curriculum comes through our affiliation with Gendai Ryu Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu, a modern integrated system developed by 9th Dan Black Belt, Dr Gavriel Schneider. It is not a sport system. It is built for the situations real people actually face.
Striking
Effective punches, elbows, knees, and kicks through structured drilling that builds real power, timing, and control. Introduced progressively, so you build technique before intensity.
Defending against attacks
Read and respond to strikes, and build practical responses to common grabs, holds, and chokes. Trained in a controlled environment with clear coaching throughout.
Weapons Survival
Awareness, positioning, and core response principles for threats involving knives and blunt weapons. The focus is recognition, movement, and decision-making under pressure.
Ground survival
Protect yourself, recover your position, and create options from the ground. Most beginners have never thought about what to do if they go down. This closes that gap.
Multiple attackers and confined spaces
Move, create space, and make better decisions when more than one person is involved, or when space is tight, such as hallways, stairwells, and cars.
Movement, awareness and positioning
Footwork, balance, spatial awareness, and staying controlled under pressure. The foundation layer most beginners are missing, and the one that speeds up every other skill.
Everything you learn in our Adult Beginner Krav Maga connects to the broader adult Krav Maga program. As your foundations grow, you open access to Advanced Krav Maga and MMA.
What to expect in your first adult beginner Krav Maga class
You do not need to prepare anything before you arrive. That is exactly what your first adult beginner Krav Maga session is for.
A low-pressure start
Your first step is to come in and train at our Holland Park academy. You will meet the coach, see how sessions run, and take part at a pace that suits where you are now. Before you leave, you will know which class fits your goals and what your first week looks like.
Coaching that meets you where you are
The coach walks you through basic movement, striking, and self-defence drills with clear instruction and direct feedback. Skills are broken down step by step. You will not be pushed past your current stage, whether you have never trained or you are returning after years away.
A training partner from day one
Where suitable, new students are paired with a more experienced partner. That gives you someone to follow and learn from, so the room feels welcoming from the first minute, not the first month.
A culture built on standards, not ego
Pressure is introduced over time, inside a controlled environment, with respectful partners and professional coaching. The result is a room where you can challenge yourself without ego, intimidation, or judgement.

Meet the Krav Maga instructors behind our adult beginner classes
When you are new, the instructor in front of you matters more than anything else on this page. You need someone who can explain clearly, coach patiently, and build your confidence without making you feel behind.
CKMA was founded by Max McGregor, an Australian Defence Force veteran and 3rd Degree Black Belt and Senior Instructor in Gendai Ryu Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu. Max is the Brisbane Representative for the Federation of Israeli Martial Arts (FIMA), holds a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Dennis Survival Ju-Jitsu, a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Antonio Lauro Rodrigues, and brings over 12 years of Krav Maga and martial arts coaching experience to the program.
Those credentials matter. What matters more for a beginner is how they are applied. Max holds a Certified Gendai Ryu Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu Instructor qualification, a Level 3 Instructor qualification through the Australian Martial Arts Coaching System, and is a Nationally Accredited Self-Defence Instructor. He has trained in Israel and under respected leaders across the international Krav Maga community. That depth informs not just what is taught at CKMA, but how it is taught to someone starting from zero.
Every CKMA instructor is personally trained, vetted, and developed by Max to the same standard. Clear instruction. Safe partner work. The ability to meet a beginner where they are and build from there, without making them feel slow, behind, or out of place.
Every member here started exactly where you are now. Come in, meet the team, take part in a structured beginner session, and leave knowing what training here looks like. No pressure, and no commitment before you are ready. The hardest part is deciding to begin. Everything after that, we help you build.
FAQ about adult beginner Krav Maga classes
Do I need any experience to start adult beginner Krav Maga?
No. Most members begin as complete beginners with no martial arts background. Skills are introduced step by step, in the right order, with clear coaching. This is martial arts for adult beginners, so no experience is assumed and none is required
Do I need to get fit before I start?
No. Fitness is a byproduct of training here, not a prerequisite for it. Coaches work with your current level from your first session, and your fitness builds progressively over time.
