Some people come for fitness. Some want confidence. Some have trained before and want something more complete. Whatever your reason, you do not need experience or fitness to start. You are coached from where you are.
Below, you will find the right martial arts class for your age and goals.
Which martial arts class is right for you?
Every class sits inside the same curriculum, so the skills you learn in one carry into the next. Pick your starting point.
Martial arts for adult beginners
The starting point for most adults. Build foundations in movement, striking, escapes, and self-defence at a pace that suits you. Taught through our Adult Beginners Krav Maga class.
Adult mixed martial arts classes
Boxing, Muay Thai, wrestling, Judo, and Jiu-Jitsu, coached to make you well-rounded. This is not a fight gym. It is structured training without the culture that puts most adults off. Open to every adult member from day one.
Advanced martial arts training
Higher pressure, scenario training, weapons defence, and coached sparring for students at White Belt Stripe 2 and above. It is the next stage once your foundations are in place.
Women-only martial arts and self-defence
Practical skills in a women-only room, led by a female instructor. Beginner friendly and connected to the wider adult program whenever you want more.
Kids martial arts classes (ages 6 to 10)
Focus, listening, and self-control through fun, structured sessions. Age-appropriate striking, movement, and grappling with self-defence at the centre. Calm confidence, never aggression.
Teen martial arts classes (ages 11 to 17)
Striking, movement, and beginner grappling, plus awareness, de-escalation, and the legal side of self-defence. Groups are split into 11 to 14 and 15 to 17.
What you will train in our martial arts classes
Our curriculum comes through our affiliation with Gendai Ryu Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu, a modern system led by Dr Gavriel Schneider, a 9th Degree Black Belt. It is built on five connected pillars.
Self-defence
Krav Maga sits at the core. Awareness, decision-making, and effective action under pressure, with a clear understanding of appropriate force.
Striking
Stand-up skills drawn from boxing and Muay Thai. Footwork, guard, combinations, timing, and distance.
Clinch
Close-range control, throws, and takedowns adapted from Muay Thai, Judo, and wrestling.
Jiu-Jitsu
Ground skills from Japanese and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Escapes, reversals, control, and staying calm when a situation goes to the ground.
Weapons
Understanding and responding to threats involving knives and blunt objects, as part of a complete system.
One system for every skill
Many people who want to learn martial arts in Brisbane end up juggling a boxing gym, a Jiu-Jitsu academy, and a self-defence course. Each one teaches its own way, and the pieces rarely fit together.
At CKMA, every skill is taught in sequence inside one curriculum. Striking sharpens your stand-up. Clinch work deepens your close range. Ground skills extend your self-defence. You progress through the belts, White through to Black, with a clear standard at every stage, so you always know what comes next.
Martial arts without the ego
Most gyms say they are welcoming. We would rather you judge us on what happens in the room.
The training is challenging, and the standard is high. The culture is respectful, coachable, and focused on growth. Sparring is introduced progressively and coached actively, with the goal of learning rather than winning. There is no fight team and no competition pressure. Beginners are welcome. Ego is not.
