Kids Martial Arts and Self-Defence Classes Brisbane for ages 6 to 10
You have watched your child go quiet in a moment when they needed to speak up or hold their ground. You are not overreacting. You are paying attention. Our kids martial arts classes at Champions Krav Maga Academy in Holland Park help children aged 6 to 10 build practical self-defence and the kind of calm confidence that shows up at school, at home, and in the everyday moments you cannot be there for. Not louder. Not tougher. Calmer, more grounded, and harder to rattle. If you have been looking for kids Krav Maga or self-defence classes for kids in Brisbane, this is where it starts.
Who our kids martial arts classes are for
This kids martial arts class is for children aged 6 to 10, and it is chosen by parents who have been quietly watching their child and thinking it might be time to do something about it.
It is a strong fit if your child:
- Goes quiet or freezes when someone is pushy or a situation feels unfair
- Struggles to speak up or find their voice under social pressure
- Is a complete beginner with no martial arts experience
- Has plenty of energy and needs structure and clear boundaries
- Is shy or sensitive and needs a room where quieter kids are not lost
- Needs to build confidence, focus, and self-control step by step
Your child does not need to be sporty, coordinated, confident, or brave before they start. We build all of that through the training itself. They just need to show up. If you have been weighing up martial arts for kids, this is a gentle, structured place to begin. If you have been telling yourself you will sort this next term, this is the term
What your child will learn in our kids martial arts classes
Every class follows a structured curriculum. Skills are taught in the right order, and nothing is random.
The Youth Martial Arts Program is built on the Gendai Ryu Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu system, under the direction of CKMA founder Max McGregor, an Australian Defence Force veteran and 3rd Degree Black Belt.
Self-defence classes for kids, built for their real world
Your child learns to notice trouble early, create distance, set a clear boundary, and respond if they need to. Built for the schoolyard and the playground, so they are harder to target and better equipped to handle what comes their way.
A complete skill set, not one style
Most kids martial arts programs teach one discipline. This program blends striking and grappling, drawing on boxing, kickboxing, Judo, and Jiu-Jitsu, so your child is never left with only one tool if a situation calls for something else. Everything stays age appropriate and safe partner based. Nothing here is about competition or sparring.
Progress you can actually see
Your child moves through the kids Krav Maga ranks as they train, with each stage building clearly on the last. When they are ready to move into the teen program, they carry that foundation forward and keep progressing through the teen Krav Maga curriculum.
Confidence, focus, discipline, and self-control
Every class builds listening, respect, and safe partner work, along with the persistence to keep trying when something is hard. Most kids activities end at the door. This is where a child who used to fold under pressure starts to hold their ground, and you see it show up at home and at school, not just on the mats.
What to expect in our kids martial arts classes
You do not need to prepare your child for their first session.
A consistent class structure
Every class follows the same clear format, so your child knows what to expect and settles quickly. Sessions start with a FUN warm up, then move into self defence and martial arts skills at their level.
Games that build fitness and skill together
Warm ups are active games, not just laps or stretching. They build fitness, coordination, and reflexes, while quietly reinforcing the techniques your child is learning that class.
A positive, safe and inclusive environment
The coaching team welcomes your child, shows them how it works, and guides them at a beginner pace. Getting them out the door is not a fight, because they want to be there. No child is left on the side working it out alone. Most who start shy settle within a few sessions and start asking when the next class is.
A room with clear standards
The children listen. The room has energy, but it is contained and purposeful. Respect and good behaviour are expected from day one. This is structured coaching, not babysitting.
Why parents choose CKMA for kids martial arts
Four things parents tell us gave them the confidence to enrol.
Qualified, checked coaches
Every kids instructor holds a valid Blue Card, a Gendai Ryu instructor qualification, and MAIA Kids Safe Instructor certification, and passes CKMA’s own internal certification first.
Small classes, real attention, every session
Classes stay small by design, so your child gets real coaching and real attention every week, not just seen once and lost in a crowd after that.
Calm confidence, not aggression
The culture rewards effort, respect, and good behaviour. Aggression is not tolerated and never rewarded. Harder to target, without becoming the kind of kid who targets others.
A pathway, not a program that resets
Most kids activities start over every term. Here your child keeps building on real progress year after year, straight into the teen program when they are ready.

What Parents Say About Youth Krav Maga at CKMA
Meet the Krav Maga instructors behind our kids martial arts classes
When you are trusting someone with your child, the coach matters more than anything else on this page. You are watching for someone calm, clearly experienced with kids, who commands respect without intimidating and who the children actually listen to.
CKMA was founded by Max McGregor, an Australian Defence Force veteran and 3rd Degree Black Belt and Senior Instructor in Gendai Ryu Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu. He is the Brisbane Representative for the Federation of Israeli Martial Arts, and brings over 12 years of coaching experience. Max leads the kids program, sets the curriculum, and trains every coach to the same standard before they step onto the mats.
Every CKMA instructor is personally trained, vetted, and developed by Max to the same standard. Clear instruction. Safe partner work. The ability to meet a child where they are and build from there without making them feel slow, behind, or out of place.
For you, that means peace of mind. Your child is in a structured, well-supervised room where the coaching is purposeful, the culture is right, and the standard does not drop from one session to the next.
You do not want to look back in two years and wish you had started sooner. The hardest part is not the training. It is deciding to begin.
Kids martial arts Brisbane: FAQs
Is this suitable for a complete beginner?
Yes. Most children start with no experience at all. The program brings beginners through step by step, at a pace that suits their age. Your child does not need to be coordinated, confident, or fit to begin.
What age is this kids martial arts class for?
Children aged 6 to 10. They train with peers at a similar age and stage, so the coaching, language, and expectations always suit where they are developmentally.
What if my child is shy or lacking confidence?
This is one of the most common reasons parents enrol, and it is exactly the child this program suits. Children who go quiet under pressure respond well to structured, consistent training. Most settle within the first few sessions, and parents notice changes at home and at school before they see them on the mats.
Will the training make my child aggressive?
No. CKMA is built on calm confidence, not aggression. Children are coached to be aware, grounded, and in control. Respect and good behaviour are non-negotiable. The goal is a child who is harder to target and calmer under pressure, not one who looks for conflict.
Can I watch the class?
Yes. Parents are welcome to observe, and many do, especially in the first few sessions. It gives you a clear picture of the coaching, how the children engage, and what your child is working on.
What should my child bring to the first class?
Comfortable training clothes and a water bottle. The coaching team walks you through everything else, including uniform and next steps, before your child leaves.
What is Kids Krav Maga compared to other kids martial arts?
Most kids martial arts is built around sport or general activity. Here, martial arts for kids starts with practical self-defence as the foundation, delivered through the Gendai Ryu system, with age-appropriate boxing, kickboxing, Judo, and Jiu-Jitsu built on top. Your child develops a complete foundation inside one structured program. To compare every program we run, see our martial arts classes in Brisbane and self-defence classes in Brisbane.
I have more than one child, can they train together?
Yes. Siblings within the six to ten age range train in the same class, so you make one drop off instead of two, and both children build the same skills together.
Will this help if my child is being bullied?
It can. Children are often targeted because they look uncertain or cannot hold their ground. Training changes how a child carries themselves, and that changes how other children treat them. It is one reason parents choose self-defence classes for kids over a sport-only class. This kids martial arts program builds that underlying capability.
Is martial arts safe for a six to ten year old?
Yes. Contact is controlled and matched to age and ability, and there is no full contact sparring at this age. Every session is run by a Blue Card holder and MAIA Kids Safe Instructor certified coach, with direct supervision throughout. Safety comes first in all our martial arts for kids
Do parents train as well?
Many CKMA families train alongside each other. Your child trains in this program, and the adult or women’s program is available if you want to train too. You do not need to train yourself to enrol your child.
Where are you located?
Champions Krav Maga Academy is at 889 Logan Road, Holland Park, Brisbane Southside QLD 4121. We regularly train kids from Mount Gravatt, Greenslopes, Coorparoo, Camp Hill, Carina, and the surrounding southside suburbs.
