Adult Mixed Martial Arts Classes Brisbane
Most adult mixed martial arts classes come with a culture you do not want. The ego in the room. The rolling that turns into proving a point. The coaching that assumes you are prepping for a cage and forgets you have a job, a family, and no interest in getting hurt on a Monday night. Our classes are built for a different adult. Someone who wants real striking, clinch, and ground skills, coached with purpose, in a room where the culture matches the standard. This is not a fight gym. It is a values-led academy where mixed martial arts is taught to the same standard as every other class on the mats. If you have been looking for adult martial arts classes or MMA in Brisbane without the fight-gym culture, you are in the right place. New to martial arts? Who our adult mixed martial arts classes are for
This is martial arts for adults who want to become well-rounded across striking, clinch, and ground, without the ego or the competition pressure of a fight gym.
You will find your place here if you are:
- An adult who has trained before and wants structure without fight gym ego
- A current CKMA member ready to round out your standing, clinch, and ground skills
- Someone who wants to be capable in every range, not just one
- An adult who wants martial arts that still connects back to real self-defence
- Someone who wants to train hard and safely, with no ego and no cage pressure
There are no eligibility requirements. Our adult mixed martial arts classes are open to every adult member, whatever your level. If you are new, your starting point is our Adult Beginners Krav Maga classes, and MMA is open to you alongside it from the day you join. This class is not for anyone chasing a professional fight team or cage competition. That is not what we are, and that is deliberate.
What you will learn in our adult mixed martial arts classes
The training builds capability across the three ranges of a fight: striking, clinch, and ground. That is what separates good martial arts for adults from a single-style class. Each range is taught in sequence and in combination, with self-defence application kept at the centre of how every skill is framed.
The curriculum sits inside the Gendai Ryu Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu system developed by Dr Gavriel Schneider, a 9th Degree Black Belt. That integration means you are not collecting isolated techniques. You are building one connected foundation that supports everything else you train.
Striking
Boxing and Muay Thai fundamentals. Learn footwork, guard, combinations, defence, pad work, timing, and distance. The aim is efficient, composed striking, not just hitting harder.
Clinch, throws, and takedowns
Judo, wrestling, and Muay Thai clinch work. Learn correct posture, grips, balance, safe takedown entries, and throws. What to do when distance closes and stepping back is not an option.
Jiu-Jitsu and ground work
Practical ground skills. Learn escapes, reversals, guard retention, dominant positions, and control under resistance. Staying calm and problem-solving when someone is on top of you.
Striking sharpens your stand-up. Clinch and takedowns deepen your close range. Ground extends your Advanced Krav Maga. MMA does not sit beside your self-defence. It makes it better.
Everything here connects to the wider adult Krav Maga program, including Advanced Krav Maga as you progress.
What to expect in your first adult mixed martial arts class
Every session has a clear focus. You are never just rolling and hoping for the best.
CLEAR COACHING AND PURPOSEFUL DRILLING
Every drill has a purpose, and the coach explains it before you start. You always know what you are working on and why it matters. Coaching is active the whole session.
PARTNER WORK BUILT ON CONTROL AND RESPECT
You drill with partners across different body types, levels, and skill sets, which builds adaptability. Conduct on the mats is clear and enforced. Hard training and safe training are not in conflict here.
CONTROLLED SPARRING WHEN APPROPRIATE
Sparring is introduced progressively and coached actively. The goal is learning, not winning. You build timing, distance, and composure in rounds with clear parameters.
A ROOM WHERE THE CULTURE MATCHES THE STANDARD
No ego. No proving a point. Just adults who train seriously and want each other to improve. You feel it in the first session.
Why adults choose CKMA for adult mixed martial arts classes
Four things experienced adults tell us set CKMA apart.
The culture matches what it claims
Most gyms say they are ego-free. Here you feel it the moment you walk in, and it holds during sparring.
Coaching that develops you
Sessions are structured and purposeful, built to keep nudging you forward, not to fill an hour.
MMA inside a self-defence system
Every skill has a real-world application, because the training is built on Gendai Ryu, not on the sport.
Training that fits your life
Two focused sessions a week that sit alongside the adult timetable, so you can train seriously without it taking over your week.

What Members Say About Training at CKMA
Many of the adults in these reviews came to CKMA after training somewhere else. The clearest read on the culture is from them.
See what our adult martial arts classes look like
Watch a real session, then come and see it in person. If you have trained elsewhere, one look at the room usually tells you whether the culture is real.
Meet the Krav Maga instructors behind our adult mixed martial arts classes
Our adult mixed martial arts classes are led by Max McGregor, founder of CKMA and an Australian Defence Force veteran. His background spans Krav Maga, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Judo, and wrestling. That breadth is the point. It is what makes the MMA program here one connected system rather than borrowed techniques that do not speak to each other.
Max is a 3rd Degree Black Belt and Senior Instructor in Gendai Ryu Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu, Brisbane Representative for the Federation of Israeli Martial Arts (FIMA), holds a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Dennis Survival Ju-Jitsu, and a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Antonio Lauro Rodrigues. He brings over 12 years of coaching experience to every class.
He holds a Certified Gendai Ryu Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu Instructor qualification, a Level 3 Instructor qualification through the Australian Martial Arts Coaching System, and is a Nationally Accredited Self-Defence Instructor. He has trained in Israel and under respected leaders across the international Krav Maga community.
Every CKMA instructor is personally trained, vetted, and developed by Max to the same standard. Clear instruction. Safe partner work. The ability to meet a beginner where they are and build from there without making them feel slow, behind, or out of place.
What adult martial arts classes should feel like
Come in, meet the coach, and take part in a session. See the coaching and the culture for yourself, with no pressure and no commitment before you are ready. If you have trained elsewhere and walked away, you already know what you are looking for. This is where you find it.
FAQ about adult Mixed Martial Arts classes
Do I need experience to start MMA classes?
No. Our adult martial arts classes coach adults with no background in boxing, Muay Thai, wrestling, or Jiu-Jitsu from where they are. Partner work is built around control and respect, and capability builds over time.
Is this a fight gym or competition program?
No. CKMA is a self-defence and martial arts academy. The training develops real-world capability, with no competition prep, no fight-team culture, and no pressure to perform beyond your level.
What martial arts styles are covered?
Striking through boxing and Muay Thai, clinch and takedowns through Judo, wrestling, and Muay Thai, and ground work through Jiu-Jitsu. All three ranges connect back to self-defence through the Gendai Ryu system. To see how every program fits together, visit our martial arts classes in Brisbane page.
Does the class include sparring?
Yes, where appropriate. Sparring is introduced progressively and coached as a learning tool, not a test of toughness. Parameters are clear and contact is controlled.
How does MMA training fit with my Krav Maga training?
It makes it more complete. Striking sharpens your stand-up, clinch and takedowns deepen close range, and ground extends your Advanced Krav Maga. It supports your self-defence, it does not replace it.
Do I need to be a member to attend?
Adult MMA is included for all adult members, and you can attend from the day you join. If you have trained before and are not sure where to start, see our previous martial arts training page.
Where are you located?
Champions Krav Maga Academy is at 889 Logan Road, Holland Park, Brisbane Southside QLD 4121. We regularly train adults from Mount Gravatt, Greenslopes, Coorparoo, Camp Hill, Carina, and the surrounding southside suburbs.
